Applied Microsystems Delivers PowerTAP for Motorola MPC8266, MPC8265 and MPC8264 Processor Based Integrated Communications Systems
New Emulation/Debug and System Browser Toolset Expands on Applied's PowerQUICC II Solutions Support
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 18, 2002--
Applied Microsystems Corp. (Nasdaq:APMC - news) announced today it is
shipping a new version of PowerTAP®, its popular PowerPC(TM) ISA
emulator/debugger solution set, for those developing integrated
communications systems using Motorola's new MPC8266, MPC8265 and
MPC8264 processors.
This marks Applied's continuing commitment to provide embedded
developer tools and services for systems being built with Motorola's
PowerQUICC II(TM) family of integrated communications processors.
PowerTAP is a toolset for developers working on custom or COTS
hardware using a commercial or proprietary RTOS. PowerTAP speeds
development and testing by focusing its solution set on key areas
where development stalls:
System Visibility, Documentation and Memory Map Management
PowerTAP makes it no longer necessary to work with large data
books or incomplete source code to decipher the register values of
processors and other memory-mapped components. PowerTAP applies a
unique System Browser(TM) technology that captures all this data at
once in one easy-to-view browser that shows bit-level detail of
processor and memory-mapped devices, an easy-to-read file structure of
the entire register block of the device, plus the ability to write new
register values.
Compatibility And Capability
PowerTAP and MWX-ICE(TM) (Applied's debugger) create a uniquely
capable and robust tool set for early system development. PowerTAP is
designed to support unstable hardware that is prone to crash and
provide visibility into the cause of the problem. In addition, the
tool provides compatibility with the broadest array of compilers,
hosts, Flash memory and target hardware topologies with the ability to
debug code held in Cache, RAM or Flash.
Diagnostic Testing & Scripting
PowerTAP comes with the industry's most robust debugger, MWX-ICE,
which provides extensive diagnostic routines that isolate hardware
subsystems and allows an engineer to quickly check the hardware design
without having to write one line of code. These tests include target
memory and CPU integration tests. PowerTAP also comes with a powerful
and highly efficient scripting language the engineer can use to create
custom tests for new hardware. This language supports ANSI/C++
statements so the engineer can easily create regression tests; code
patches and perform repetitive tasks.
Ethernet Connectivity And Speed
PowerTAP comes with the ability to access the target remotely
across an Ethernet network and download code at the highest possible
speeds.
"Applied Microsystems has consistently delivered powerful
development tools for our PowerQUICC II family that further enable
developers to utilize the extensive capabilities of processors like
the MPC8264, MPC8265, and MPC8266 in networking and telecommunications
equipment and other cutting-edge applications. PowerTAP support for
these new PowerQUICC II processors expands on Applied's broad support
for Motorola's Smart Networks solutions and reduces PowerQUICC II
system debug time to lower the cost of overall system development,"
stated Keith Cheney, director of strategic marketing for Motorola's
Networking and Communications Systems Division.
PowerTAP is one of a series of solutions Applied offers to support
the developer through a product's development cycle. PowerTAP speeds
driver or board support package related development while NetROM®
speeds the application development phase with its integration with
leading RTOS development environments. Applied's CodeTEST®
verification and validation tool suite provides in-depth execution
trace, performance and memory analysis to help the developer optimize
performance of the embedded system. CodeTEST also produces critical
data on the effectiveness of test coverage. Moreover, Applied provides
design and consulting services plus a suite of on-site training
courses.
